Grocery Haul: Trader Joe's

Hey everyone! I'm back with another quick post. Today I have a grocery haul to share with you. I've been doing my grocery shopping at Trader Joe's for the past few weeks because it is much more cost effective. I won't lie, I've missed the large variety of organic produce that Whole Foods offers but my wallet has been appreciating the switch.

I didn't actually buy any Meatless Meatballs but I immediately thought of Shen when I saw them and decided to snap a pic. I'm glad that you'll be able to get them again Shen!

I was a little disappointed in the organic fruit selection. I think this was mostly because I was able to get the most amazing organic peaches there just a few weeks ago and now every stone fruit they had was conventionally grown. It bummed me out but I didn't get it because I just can't bring myself to get conventionally grown dirty dozen fruits or veggies. I did get a few great things like strawberries, bananas, basil, grape tomatoes, lemon, cucumber, carrots and avocados. Mmm.

For grocery items I decided to splurge on some faux meat and decided to go for the TJ's version of Gardein Chick'n Tenders. Same taste and half the price, you have to love that! I'm also not really a pasta eater so I don't know what possessed me to get this gluten free pasta but I added that in to my cart as well. The Mediterranean hummus is one of my favorite commercial hummus' so I picked up a container of that. I've never tried the Chocolate Sorbet but how can I turn down chocolate sorbet made with coconut milk?! I hadn't seen this before either so my curiosity got the best of me. I finally finished my last tub of EB so I picked up another one. I've never had the whipped version, I hope it's good!

That's pretty much it for my haul. I'm trying to get back on track with my posting and I already have and idea for my next one so hopefully I'll be back sooner rather than later! Shen, you inspired the next one so I hope you like it! See you soon!

  1. Chocolate and coconut go so well together. I just had chocolate coconut vegan ice cream last night. Yum! :)

    1. Haha see, great minds think alike! I'm wondering how the texture will be since they are calling this sorbet but we'll see soon enough!

  2. I am so ashamed that I've yet to get to Trader Joe's since the return of the Meatless Meatballs. I can't imagine finally seeing them
Nice haul. Not too many impulse items. Maybe a summer Pasta Salad in the offing?

    1. You've gotta get back there :) Thanks, I try to stick to my list as much as possible. I couldn't say no to that sorbet though, hopefully it is good! A pasta salad sounds like a great idea!

  3. I haven't yet tried the Meatless Meatballs I purchased, but soon enough (err...when it's not hot outside, so September-ish). The produce is definitely the least exciting part of TJ's, but the price is so good (and it's close to me, which makes it easy enough!). Lots of great stuff here!!

    1. I have never been a huge fan of meatballs (faux or not) so I left them at the store but I bet you'll love them. THe produce department is really lacking so I'm not sure how long I'll be able to exclusively shop there. Thanks!

  4. Your comment on Sage's blog caught my eye because I live on Long Island, too! In Huntington which, in an earlier post, you say you live 30 minutes from. In fact, my most recent post is pictures of Hecksher Park there.

    Nice blog!

    1. Hi! Thank you so much for stopping by, I had no idea you live on Long Island! I love Huntington, I go to the farmer's market there sometimes on Sundays. I went a few weeks ago and stopped in Northport too. Here is that post! http://nerdyonlongisland.blogspot.com/2014/06/show-tell-sunday-perfect-morning.html

I'll definitely have to check out your Hecksher Park Post!

    2. Thanks for visiting my blog, Sarah. All of my other blogger-friends live far away so it's a treat to have someone who knows Long Island. For example, I shop at the Trader Joe's in Commack all the time.

    3. Of course! I plan on reading much more when I actually have time to sit and peruse ;) I know, I love seeing what other people do here and I'm curious about the similar pics you've taken! Haha yes, I know exactly what you are talking about... I go to the new TJ's that opened up by the mall in Westbury :)

  5. I haven't seen the chik'n tenders. That'll be my next TJ purchase. I hear ya about the organic produce. I'm glad our TJ's and WF are on the same road so I can hit them on the same day.

    1. If you can find them I definitely recommend the tenders! WFs definitely has amazing organic produce, it's just so expensive. It is worth it though for the quality.

  6. Obviously you can't compare TJs produce to WF, but I've also noticed the produce dept of some TJs stores is better than others. Total crapshoot. The bagged organic greens are a great deal and there are a lot of organic frozen fruit, but fresh is hit or miss.
I have to try that chocolate coconutmilk ice cream! I got the cuban beans (canned) for the first time last week and they were great in tacos and a salad. There's also newish canned dolmas that are surprisingly good with a squeeze of fresh lemon.
