Digging Out

Hey everyone! Hope that all of my friends in Hercules' path remained safe and warm. I woke up this morning to hear the whipping winds and see the swirling snow still coming down. It has calmed down and is now sunny... which is what I've come to expect after big storms. I think it's Mother Nature's way of giving us the finger or smirking at us. I'm still at my brother's house and we easily got a foot of snow with the drifts and everything.

When I woke up it was still coming down like crazy and very grey.

The weird thing was that it barely stuck to the cars at all! They were all pretty much clean. One less thing for me to clean up.

It was very overwhelming to me to have to dig everything out myself but luckily my brother has nice neighbors that came to my rescue (after I put in a good hour by myself so I got my workout in for the day, ha). It is currently about 1:30 pm and the plow still has not come so the street is still a mess. My 1998 clunker won't make it down the block in that so I'm taking a snow day and I'll probably have to dig out again after the plow comes. Luckily I moved my car into the driveway behind my sister in law's so I'll only have a little to dig out in front of the driveway.

I have to say that even though I hate snow in general that it looks really beautiful today. It is really powdery because of the bitter cold temperatures and it glistens like glitter in the sun. So pretty!

It wouldn't be a post from my brother's house without pics of the fur children. I only have Tyler and Eddie today but they are adorable...

Tyler was so cute!! He built himself a little fort in all of the pillows and blankets. It was drafty in the bedroom so he kept himself warm in his adorable little fort.

Here he is all snuggled up in his fort. I've been loving all of the snuggle time! He's such a cuddlebug.

Eddie has been extra affectionate this visit. Of course my allergy to him is driving me nuts but I just can't kick that face off the bed. He's so cute and worth the sneezing and itchy eyes and coughs ;) He sleeps on the pillow next to me at night and has taken to laying on me while we watch TV. Tyler is always right by my side too.

So that's been it for the last couple of days. My 21 day 80-10-10 Challenge starts on January 5 and I'm excited/nervous. I'm planning on going grocery shopping Sunday or Monday (I have enough produce to get me through Sunday if necessary) and will show you my haul. This first week will probably be a Trader Joe's haul since I have gift cards. Yay! It'll be a huge help.

That's all from my neck of the woods. How did all of you do with the storm? I know the accumulations weren't extraordinary in most places but the wind and cold temps made it brutal. Hope you are all well and warm! XO and Happy New Year!

  1. Aw, doggie fort! Skyla likes to make a nest out of Chris's worn T shirts.

  2. Holy bananas! It does look beautiful, but a foot of snow is never pleasant to deal with once you have to leave the house! My cousin and her husband have been here visiting from Boston, and their Thursday flight was canceled - now having to stay until Monday. A happy inconvenience, I suppose! I think the worst part of any weather like this is the chill! It looks like the bitter cold is sticking around for you. :( More blankets and more fuzzies!

Speaking of fuzzies - aaaaah! Tyler is so cute! I just want to love on him! How fun to snuggle and play with him this past week. You are such a trooper for handling allergies with Eddie - I know he thinks he's just loving you. Ha ha!

Looking forward to your next post! I will definitely take notes on your grocery haul!

    Stay warm and dry!

    1. It was a nightmare to try and travel in it, even today! My drive to work was really scary because one of the main roads I had to travel was really messy. I was surprised that they had done such a bad job cleaning it but it was much better coming home thankfully. Ugh canceled flights are always annoying but at least you have some more time with them! I heard it is going to be frigid by you so you stay warm and dry too!

Isn't he the best?! It has been so nice to snuggle with him. I think he loves the attention too ;) Oh man my nose automatically stuffs up the minute I walk in the house but he is just too damn cute.

Thanks! I'm going to have to go on Monday and I'll post it after work (making up a day, wah!).

      Thanks, you too!

  3. Getting snowed in with Tyler & Eddie doesn't sound so bad. I love that top pic of Tyler. At least you still have power and lots of raw food.

Sounds like you're holding on to your car till it achieves antique status.

Looking forward to following your cleanse.

    1. It was definitely nice to have extra cuddle time with the fuzzies. Yes, thankfully the power didn't go out! I was thinking the same and very grateful for it!

I am driving this car until it dies. I'm surprised how well it's hanging on!

Thanks! Looking forward to sharing it with you!

  4. We're in the middle of the storm right now and it doesn't look like it's going to let up until tomorrow afternoon. You're right about that wind. It's really nasty! I feel like all I've been doing is clearing the driveway lately.

Tyler and Eddie are such cuties. I always love seeing pictures of them. Those faces! Pure sweetness. :)

    1. I heard that you are going to be dealing with horrible frigid temps and a nasty storm. Stay safe, warm and dry!! Luckily you have lots of sweetness to cuddle with :)

I love these guys :) They've made the storm a lot more tolerable... I have zero patience for snow and wind and cold otherwise ha.

  5. Hercules was certainly a storm! We're still trying to dodge ice patches here in PA - saw on the news that LI was hit pretty bad! Hope things get cleared up by you soon!
Good luck with your 8-10-10 challenge! Excited to read about it :)

    1. Hi Lauren! The roads were still nasty here too. Hopefully you didn't get it too bad where you are though! It was pretty brutal and it was still very messy this morning when I left for work but it looked a lot better when I got out thankfully! Be safe and stay warm!

Thank you! I'm looking forward to sharing it!

  7. Jeez! We in Toronto were hit with a horrible storm on the 22nd of December and so many people were without power (some until New Years!). Luckily I wasn't affected except for some very difficult walks to work and a couple freezing cold days at work (thank you you burst water pipes!). Glad you are safe and sound though!

Good luck starting 80-10-10 today! You will rock it!
